Our guide on how to safely interact with street dogs
If they’re sleeping, let them be
Startling can cause fear or defence.
Never touch a dog while they’re eating
Give them space.
Let them come to you
Crouch nearby, let them sniff you first.
Read their body language
Relaxed = Safe
Stiff, growling, or backing away = Stop
If you’re not comfortable, you don’t have to touch or engage with them
Just don’t harm them.

What to do if bitten by a street dog
Wash
Wash the wound with soap under running water for 15 minutes.
Disinfect
Clean the wound with idoine/betadine if possible. Do not cover the wound and do not apply home remedies.
Get medical help
It is vital to go to the hospital immediately for the full course of post-exposure injections. The national medical emergency ambulance number in Nepal is 102.
Post-exposure treatment
Get anti-rabies vaccine. You may also need a tetanus booster.
